Teaching

I have taught business communication at UT Dallas full time since 2016, after teaching first-year writing and literature as a graduate student. My courses prepare students to communicate with confidence in workplaces where AI is already part of the job. Students practice with the tools employers use, including AI applicant tracking systems, and learn when and how to use generative AI responsibly.

    Advanced Professional Communication

    Communication as a management and leadership tool, for juniors and seniors in the Jindal School.

  • BCOM 1300

    Professional Communication (First-Year Learning Lab)

    Required for new Jindal School undergraduates. Covers how AI screens résumés and conducts interviews, and includes LinkedIn and Microsoft Office certificates.

    Business Communication

    Writing and presentations for transfer students, with a focus on the job search.

  • Capstone

Earlier courses include Business Communication (BCOM 3310), Professional Development, Freshman Seminar, Masterpieces of World Literature, and Rhetoric.

From 2020 to 2024, I directed the Jindal School's Business Communication Program and Business Communication Center, leading its faculty and creating writing and speaking "bootcamps" for students.

Helping faculty teach with AI

As one of UT Dallas's first Provost's Teaching Fellows and the Center for Teaching and Learning's AI champion, I help colleagues across campus plan courses and write policies for generative AI.

  • "Can Copilot Pass My Class?" hands-on workshop, January 2025.
  • UT Dallas Week of AI, 2025: "10 Ways to Use AI in Your Workflow" and "Writing an AI Policy: Assignments & Syllabi."
  • Faculty Learning Community on Generative AI and Instruction, and Microsoft Copilot office hours for faculty.
  • Helped pilot the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) teaching program at UT Dallas, 2018.

Advising

I am the advisor for the Chi Psi chapter of Delta Sigma Pi, the professional business fraternity. Delta Sigma Pi named me Regional Chapter Advisor of the Year from 2023 through 2026.
